Algorithms of Fate

Algorithms of Fate: How People Calculated the Next StepCourse-ResearchVita HarwoodSeries 'In Twelve Evenings' BOOK 9Test your knowledge! What happens when a random card, a changing line or an astrological calculation becomes advice? Algorithms of Fate is a clear, engaging investigation of the ways people manage uncertainty. Across twelve lessons, Vita Harwood examines the legend of Medici Solitaire, the mathematics of card layouts, the I Ching, Ifa, geomancy, Tarot, Lenormand, runes, bibliomancy, and electional and horary astrology. The course also explores the Barnum effect, confirmation bias, base rates and ways to evaluate predictions more honestly. It neither mocks these traditions nor asks readers to accept them without evidence. Instead, it separates calculation, interpretation, psychological effect and decision-making, so the whole mechanism becomes visible. Includes assignments, 120 questions with explanations, a glossary, resources and a safe personal experiment.
