Das Buch liefert eine theoretisch fundierte Erklärung moderner Inflationsprozesse, die über klassische Nachfrage-, Kosten- und Gewinninflation hinausgeht. Im Zentrum steht die Analyse notenbankfinanzierter Staatsverschuldung und der damit verbundenen Aufhebung des Refluxgesetzes. Sobald Staaten ihre Ausgaben nicht mehr aus real erwirtschafteten Mitteln bestreiten, sondern sich dauerhaft über Umschuldung finanzieren, entsteht zusätzliche Kaufkraft, die den Geldkreislauf aufbläht und längerfristige Inflationstendenzen hervorbringt. Die Autoren zeigen, dass zyklische Preisbewegungen – einschließlich Multiplikator- und Akzelerationsprozesse – ohne staatliche Eingriffe langfristig neutralisiert werden. Erst die Finanzierung staatlicher Ausgaben über die Zentralbank blockiert diese Bereinigungsmechanismen. Auf Grundlage der Marxschen Geldtheorie wird herausgearbeitet, worin sich Geld als verselbstständigter Wert der Ware von staatlich erzeugtem „Falschgeld“ (Inflationsgeld) unterscheidet und wie die zusätzliche Emission von Banknoten das Repräsentationsverhältnis zur Geldware (Gold) verändert. Statt Politikempfehlungen zu formulieren, analysiert das Buch die strukturellen Handlungszwänge moderner Staaten und zeigt, warum sie ihre eigene Währung untergraben.
