This textbook incorporates the modern concept of Entrustable Professional Activities and integrated gross anatomy with histology and relevant clinical conditions to enhance and reinforce students’ learning. As anatomy is a foundational subject in the medical curriculum, a deep understanding of anatomical concepts during the pre-clinical years is essential for effective clinical practice. Over the years, anatomy has been taught using a variety of tools, including cadaveric specimens and illustrations. For many years, hand-drawn illustrations on blackboards using chalk were widely used by anatomists in the classroom. This traditional approach provided the inspiration for the development and design of the present textbook by the authors, who have many years of experience in anatomy teaching. The hand-drawn anatomical illustrations of Emeritus Professor Ling present an integrated approach to gross anatomy, histology, including both light and electron microscopy images, aspects of developmental biology, and relevant neuroanatomical context. These illustrations have been meticulously digitised by Dr Deepika and incorporated into this textbook to make them accessible to a new generation of medical students. To reinforce learning, this textbook includes quizzes designed to assess comprehension and support self-paced review. Integrated illustrations featuring anatomical structures and neurofunctional circuits further enhance conceptual clarity and help simplify complex neuronal information.Overall, this textbook offers a cohesive integration of gross anatomy, histology, selected aspects of developmental biology, and relevant neuroanatomical context. The colourful digital illustrations are designed to help students build a strong foundation in gross anatomy and appreciate its relevance to clinical practice. The book also includes clinical scenarios and assessment components that challenge students to apply their knowledge and evaluate their understanding.
