8 practice papers · 336 questions · 1,680 explained optionsYou have done the official practice material. You have worked a question bank. Your mark has not moved in three attempts.Another five hundred will not fix that. A score out of 42 tells you how many you got wrong; it cannot tell you which kind of wrong you are - the only thing that shifts a plateaued mark. Most LNAT books explain why the right answer is right. That teaches you one question. This book explains all five options on every question: the key defended, each wrong answer traced to the words that make it tempting. 1,680 explained options.Six ways a wrong answer goes wrongStrength and scope - 'tends to suggest' became 'proves'. Relevance - true, but not what was asked. Attribution - the right claim, the wrong mouth. Reversal - the relationship backwards. Wording camouflage - the passage’s words, a claim it never makes. Half-right - half true, half quietly false. All 1,344 wrong options are tagged to one of those six families. Work a paper, fill in the grid, and the pattern falls out: not 'you scored 31', but attribution errors on four of the seven offered. A week of revision you can aim.Built to the published format42 questions on 12 argumentative passages in 95 minutes, then one essay from three in 40 minutes. Every paper is built to it, on 96 original passages across the prose the test uses: academic analysis, reportage, institutional documents, historical narrative. The published practice papers were measured first - passage length, sentence and paragraph structure, question mix - and every paper here is written to those figures: a median 523 words per passage against the official 517. Every question was then re-checked with its passage deleted, so that answering without reading is no easier here than on the official papers.Questions people askWhy five options when the practice test I sat showed four? The official material does not agree with itself: both practice papers the Consortium publishes as PDFs are five-option, A to E, while its on-screen test shows four, and nothing published reconciles them. Nothing in the method depends on the count. Five is simply the harder version to train on: one more plausible wrong answer to eliminate, every time.Full-length practice tests? Eight, complete and full-length.Are the answers explained? Every option on every question - 1,680, not just the key. Each is traced to the words that make it tempting and named as one of six traps. Is it suitable if I am starting from scratch? Yes. Fifteen technique chapters precede the papers, and Paper 1 opens with 13 straightforward questions. Paper 8 has none.Does it cover the essay? Yes - Section B strategy, six graded essays annotated in full, a self-marking rubric, a 40-minute routine and a bank of prompts.I have plateaued. What now? Sit one paper, fill in the error profile, read the chapter it points at. Count kinds, not marks.Who is it for? Year 12 and 13 applicants, gap-year and mature candidates sitting the LNAT for 2027 entry, and the teachers and tutors supporting them. This is original practice material written to the published LNAT format; official questions are not reproduced. The LNAT Consortium has no connection with, and does not endorse or recommend, this book or any other preparatory material. Synapse Academic Press · UK Admissions Series, Volume 5.
