La Biblia lleva siglos proclamándose Palabra deDios. Este libro se limita a leerla. Lo que encuentra cualquier lector sin adoctrinamientoprevio es un texto extraordinario y contradictorio a la vez: extraordinario porque contiene pasajes de genuina sabiduría moral; contradictorio porque esos pasajes conviven con órdenes de exterminio, regulaciones de la esclavitud, tasaciones de seres humanos por sexo y edad, y un dios que castiga hasta la cuarta generación los errores que él mismo ha fabricado. La honestidad de una religión no debería medirse por su insistencia en ser dueña de la verdad, sino por su afán en encontrarla. En ese camino, las tres religiones mosaicas suspenden estrepitosamente. No parece Palabra de Dios no es un ataque a los creyentes que buscan a Dios con honestidad, que son la inmensa mayoría. Es una serie de preguntas que le surgen al autor al leer los textos sin sujeción a dogmas: ¿puede un Dios Omnisciente contradecirse a sí mismo? ¿Puede un Dios Misericordioso ordenar el asesinato de los niños primogénitos de Egipto, regular la venta de hijas, bendecir el proxenetismo de Abraham o condenar al fuego eterno a quienes no pudieron creer porque Él les cerró el corazón? ¿A quién beneficia mantener esas contradicciones como verdades eternas? El horizonte del libro no es la destrucción sino la construcción: el de una espiritualidad que no necesite el miedo para sostenerse, que no requiera intermediarios para acceder a lo divino, y que esté a la altura de lo que el homo novus lleva siglos esperando: que entre todos le permitamos llegar. Porque creer en Dios no es lo mismo que creer en lo que los hombres dicen de Dios. Y tal vez sea hora de empezar a distinguirlos.
