The book, edited by Professor Claudia Toffano Benevento, was the result of guidance provided for final projects in the Postgraduate Nursing Programme in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) at UniAnhanguera/Niterói/RJ. The role of nurses in assisting patients with pain management is discussed, as well as the nurse’s role in humanised care and new technologies. A brief study is reported on nursing care in the prevention of pressure ulcers, their treatment and protocol implementation, burnout syndrome and the process of becoming ill in the workplace. It analyses humanisation in the Intensive Care Unit and the strategy for preventing hospital infection in the use of Central Venous Catheters and Peripheral Insertion Catheters (CCIP), as well as absenteeism among nursing staff related to work-related illnesses.
