Take the time to think about how exactly you teach your son or daughter other new lease of life skills. How will you teach your son or daughter to recite the alphabet, pull a picture, tie up his or her shoes lace, dress him or herself, or come up with a puzzle? Do you actually spend one full day on extreme non-formal lessons or teaching for your kids and then expect your son or daughter to pass the test by the end of the day? Would you demand that he or she show mastery every day thereafter without ever making any errors? I question it! If you do approach lessons in this manner, you’d likely finish up frustrated as well as your child would maintain tears.The actual way that people teach children new skills is by carrying it out gradually, over an interval of days, weeks, celebrating every little victory that follows. This won’t apply merely to toddlers, it’s a design you’ll follow as an adult for quite some time too, which include your son or daughter; from the first new experience on riding bicycle, to the very first time on skis, to the new level of driving a car, and in regards to a million other new things we all do.Considering your part in your son or daughter’s learning processes, how will you strategize when teaching your son or daughter something new? Are you going to be extreme and psychological? Would you demand that he sit down still and give consideration? Would you put a crayon in his hands and demand that he start painting, when you sit down and get worried that he’ll never figure out how to draw an effective picture or print a capital A? Would you consider yourself seated next to him, taking records, when he would get to a better level? Would you fret that he’ll be putting on Velcro sneakers to senior high school or you need to button his tux for him on his big day? Obviously not! You understand that your son or daughter will get good at these skills and many more during his or her lifetime which teaching him or her is one of your jobs as a mother or father.Think about your expectations when teaching your son or daughter something new. When teaching him to draw an image of the family, what do you anticipate to be the very first thing he’ll deposit on paper? A family group portrait? No, it’s a scribble! And you will take pleasure in his work and post his artwork on the refrigerator door. As time passes, and with repetition, that scribble will need shape till your son or daughter will pull circles and squares and soon homes, people, and pets.Now let look at this next new event in your son or daughter’s life: Potty/Toilet training. You should be able to strategize potty training the same manner that you do every other new skills step-by-step, as time passes, with pleasure, kindness, and endurance.
