It is the late 1600s in England, and Will Davies is a typical twelve-year-old kid overflowing with curiosity and unlimited energy. Will’s father has just died, leaving his mother without money and the means to provide an education for her two sons. Mr. Purvis, their father’s former employer, soon makes an offer that leaves Will shaking in his boots.Mr. Purvis arranges for Will to become the cabin boy on a merchant ship captained by Richard North, a reputable master. Before the ship even sets sail, Will’s adventure begins as he’s confronted by a one-eyed thief who attempts to rob their family and threatens revenge after the two brothers chase him off. After the ship leaves port, Will is punished by the ship’s captain and chased through a Portuguese fortress-all before a group of vicious pirates attack his ship! Will must decide whether to stay hidden or help fend off the pirates. His choice leads him straight into the arms of the kidnappers, and Will must find a way to outwit his captors before they steal the king’s gold.Sail through history with Will as he explores distant lands, makes new friends, and manages to find trouble along the way!
