W niniejszej pracy przedstawiono aspekty związane z zastosowaniami GIS, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem złóż żelaza. Przedstawiono modele sprzyjające występowaniu minerałów, kładąc nacisk na metodę wag dowodowych (weights of evidence) poprzez włączenie danych geologicznych, geochronologicznych, dotyczących występowania żelaza, a także danych uzyskanych w wyniku przetwarzania obrazów z czujników zdalnego wykrywania.
